THE STORY OF AMBER

_____

There are not two identical pieces of amber. Each of them hides its own story. Natural beauty, organic structure and uniqueness of the material require special treatment. Both work with the yantar itself, as well as with wood, stone or metal, which become a background for an amber stone, is a kind of art.

Amber has always been wrapped in an aura of mystery and was associated with a healing power. It was made of resin, which in the form of golden drops appeared on tree trunks, when these were damaged or died. Will we ever manage to unravel the mystery of what tree species can be called amber-giving? None of the trees of our time created an ancient, eternally green, profusely resinous forest, producing juices ready to transform into a fossil, that is able to survive over 40 million years. The internal structure, and hence the unique beauty and quality of amber, depends on the conditions in which the resin has to mature and last. The BALTIC stone enjoys exceptional fame in this respect, it is the most valued in the world.

THE AMBER ROAD

 _____

It is not surprising, that the ancient Romans created the path to this precious wealth, which in the first century became the route of intense trade between the North and the South. This went down in history under the name of the Amber Route.

For centuries, amber was associated with the symbol of wealth. It was part of the culture in form of lucky talismans, healing potions or beautiful beads. Amber avoids the pressure of time and passing fashion. Nowadays, it gains a new face, perfectly fitting in modern trends, marking its presence during fairs and exhibitions, and paving the way for innovative directions in applied arts. Amber 77 is an attempt to combine the spirit of modernity with respect for the unique history of this amazing stone.

BALTIC AMBER

_____

The Baltic is a sea with many faces, it fascinates with its raw, mysterious beauty. In its depths amber has acquired such a wide COLOR PALETTE, unparalleled anywhere else. The species of tree, the resin of which gave birth to Baltic amber, is Pinus succinifera, the so-called “Amber-bearing tree” from the pine family.
Baltic amber is available in several main colours and about 250 shades. COGNAC reigns supreme among amber varieties, less often we can meet WHITE, GRAY, BLACK, YELLOW, CHERRY and GREEN.
✶✶✶✶✶
The Cognac colour comes from the color of the resin and the aging process of amber over 40 million years. The cognac variety contains a small amount of gases in its structure, which makes it transparent.
In terms of its composition, CHERRY amber is similar to cognac. This color was born in the warm environment of sediments that were present in the Baltic region millions years ago. Additionally, if a very dark piece of cognac amber is left in the open air for many years under appropriate conditions, its surface will oxidize and darken. Amber owes this process a colour resembling that of wine in shades from red to dark brown. YELLOW amber contains more gases than other amber varieties and is therefore less transparent. The colour ranges from snow-white through milky to slightly honey-like. WHITE amber is very desirable among the creators of unique jewellery. It is the most valuable colour that was created as a result of high air humidity. GREEN and BLACK amber owe their colours to organic pollutants, such as moss and bark, which have been trapped in the amber-bearing resin. The GRAY variety, i.e. the so-called marsh amber, is rarely found.

CARIBBEAN AMBER

_____

Apart from the waters of the Baltic Sea, one of the most valuable types of amber has its deposits in the Caribbean and probably comes from the extinct tree species Hymenaea protera from the legume family, found only in tropical areas of Central America.
✶✶✶✶✶
Caribbean amber, like Baltic amber, can have many shades. It is caused by the effect of amber formation in different natural environments, and its history can reach from 10 to 30 million years. In our jewellery, we use Caribbean amber with a natural light green colour. Caribbean amber is one of the most expensive amber in the world, and among them the rarest and most valuable is blue amber. Therefore, this shade was obtained by combining natural light Caribbean amber with a blue pigment. When creating our jewellery, modern methods of amber processing are used, preserving its natural structure and origin.
